Biography
Rima Salamoun is a Syrian visual artist born in Damascus in 1963. She graduated from the Faculty of Fine Arts at Damascus University in 1987 and is a member of the Syrian Plastic Artists Union. Over the course of her career, Salamoun has cultivated a deeply expressive and distinctive figurative-expressionist style. Working from the perspective of a witness, she immerses herself in explorations of the human body and face, using them as vessels to reflect complex psychological states. Her art creates a unique visual space where lines are not merely boundaries, but connective threads—linking singular, twin, and collective bodies. Salamoun’s figures are not about declaring or concealing intimacy; instead, they evoke a human presence shaped by emotional depth and resilience. Her work stands as a quiet but powerful resistance to erasure and oblivion, affirming the enduring vitality of the human spirit and its triumph over death.
