Biography

Ammar Hammoud

Born in Tartous, Syria in 1989, Ammar Hammoud was raised in a profoundly creative environment shaped by his parents, renowned Syrian artists Rima Salamoun and Yasser Hammoud. From an early age, Ammar was immersed in the visual arts, a foundation that would become the bedrock of his artistic identity. His formal art education began at the International University of Science and Technology (IUST) in Damascus, where he studied Graphic Design from 2007 to 2009. In 2010, Hammoud moved to London, enrolling in David Game College’s Department of Painting, Design, and Architecture. He further deepened his practice through specialized studios and workshops at London Metropolitan University, where he remained until 2013. Seeking broader exposure and growth, he relocated to Barcelona, Spain, where he spent five formative years maturing his style and engaging with the European art scene. In 2018, Hammoud returned to the region, now based between Syria and Lebanon, where he continues his professional practice. Ammar Hammoud’s work is characterized by a striking interplay of black-and-white tones, linear abstraction, and intricate compositions that resemble spiderweb-like networks. His graphic language flows from both lived experience and digital media influences. His method reflects an instinctive, introspective process—deconstructing existence as he perceives it and reconstructing it through sharp, minimal, yet emotionally charged visual statements. His art is a constant inquiry: it is analytical, precise, and austere, yet deeply sincere in its attempt to communicate the rawness of being. Each piece he creates invites the viewer to pause, feel a subtle disturbance, and then confront a question. For Hammoud, art is rooted in instinct—a primal gesture of provocation and discovery.
